Introduction

The Veteran Strongman Association (VSA) is committed to maintaining a safe, respectful, and positive environment for all members, volunteers, and partners. This Code of Conduct establishes clear expectations for behavior and accountability for everyone who represents or participates in VSA activities.

We strive to foster a community grounded in integrity, respect, and responsibility.

Purpose

The purpose of this Code of Conduct is to:

a. Promote honesty, integrity, and openness within our community.

b. Ensure a community free from discrimination, harassment, bullying, and retaliation.

c. Align decisions and actions with the VSA’s mission.

d. Promote responsible engagement with the community and external stakeholders.

e. Encourage the prompt reporting of misconduct and ensure all reports are handled fairly and respectfully.

Scope

This Code of Conduct applies to all levels of our organization, including board members, VSA coaches, employees, volunteers, vendors, sponsors, partners, and spectators at VSA events, as well as anyone involved in organizing or participating in VSA meetings and activities.

It applies both in-person and online, including social media and other digital communications related to VSA activities.

Standards of Conduct

All members of the community are expected to adhere to these behavioral standards:

a. Professionalism: Conduct yourselves professionally. Be courteous, conscientious, and businesslike in all activities and interactions.

b. Respect: Treat everyone with respect and consideration, providing an environment free of discrimination and harassment. Harassment includes verbal, physical, visual, or digital conduct that demeans or shows hostility toward an individual.

c. Lawful Behavior: Abide by all applicable laws and fulfill your obligations towards stakeholders and the community ethically.

d. Confidentiality: Safeguard and respect confidentiality and the privacy of others. Do not share personal or sensitive information obtained through VSA involvement unless authorized.

f. Safety: Prioritize the physical and emotional safety of participants. Immediately report unsafe conditions or conduct at events.

Anti-Discrimination Policy

VSA is committed to creating an inclusive and welcoming environment for all. Discrimination or harassment of any kind against any individual or group based on race, color, religion, gender, national origin, age, disability, sexual orientation, veteran status, marital status, gender identity or expression, or any other status protected under applicable law will not be tolerated.

We expect all participants to act inclusively, use respectful language, and contribute to an environment that supports dignity and equality for all.

All complaints will be handled with seriousness and confidentiality through a thorough investigation.

Non-Retaliation:

VSA strictly prohibits retaliation against anyone who reports a concern in good faith or participates in an investigation. Retaliation is a violation of this Code and will result in disciplinary action.

Enforcement and Compliance

All reports will be reviewed by the VSA Board or an independent designee. The process generally includes an initial assessment, interviews with involved parties, and a written determination.

Possible outcomes include:

  • Verbal or written warning

  • Mandatory training or mediation

  • Suspension or removal from events

  • Termination of membership or partnership

  • Referral to law enforcement, when applicable

Disciplinary action will be proportional to the severity and frequency of the violation, with consideration for intent and impact.

Appeals: Individuals subject to disciplinary action may request an appeal within ten (10) business days of receiving notice of the decision.

VSA staff will support and assist in contacting the appropriate authorities as needed.
